The Western Boone Stars hit the road on Tuesday evening to take on the Southmont Mounties in a hard-fought junior high wrestling meet at Southmont Middle School. Western Boone came out strong in the lower weights. Jace Anderson got the Stars on the board with an impressive first-period pin at 75 pounds, and Ty Williamson followed with a forfeit win at 80. After a double forfeit at 85, Austin Harlow earned a solid 13-4 decision at 90 pounds to keep the momentum rolling and give Western Boone an early team advantage. Southmont answered back in the middle weights, stringing together several key victories to swing the team score. Jayden Vaughn battled tough at 95 before falling by pin, and Griffin Johanson dropped a hard-fought 8-2 decision at 100. TJ McKinney and Nate Muir also came up short by pin, as the Mounties began to build separation on the scoreboard. Brookelyn Bailey and Ty Sanders showed grit in their matches, while Silas Boggs stopped the Mounties’ run with a clutch pin at 157 pounds to keep the Stars within striking distance. Gage Fields added another forfeit victory at 138, and Connor Palmer and Drake Wagner picked up important forfeit wins late in the lineup. Kamden Talbert delivered one of the most exciting matches of the night at 175 pounds, battling into sudden victory before narrowly falling 6-9. Despite several strong efforts and six total wins on the night, the Stars ultimately fell to the Mounties by a final score of 57-40. The Stars will be back in action on Thursday when they host Frankfort. Wrestling starts at 6:00 PM.
