Friday, November 21st For a little more than a half, the Western Boone girls basketball team found themselves in a decent position to make a late run against Southmont in the Sugar Creek Classic semifinal. But after an Ally Lewis 3-pointer cut the Stars' deficit to 28-22 with 5:28 to go in the third quarter, the Mounties went on a 20-0 run to put the game away and advance to the Sugar Creek Classic final against North Montgomery on Saturday night. The Stars were slow coming out of the gate on Friday, falling behind 8-0 before Isabell Grady scored with 2:40 left in the first quarter to put the Stars on the board. Southmont hit a 3 to make it 11-2, but Western Boone countered with an 8-1 run getting within 12-10 on a 3-pointer by Jaylee Dickerson to open the second quarter. But that is as close as Western Boone would get. They didn't make consecutive baskets again until midway through the fourth quarter when Ila Stokes hit back-to-back 3s. They hung around for most of the second quarter, trailing by four late in the half after two Grady free throws and but ultimately trailed by eight at the half. After Southmont hit a free throw to make it 28-19 in the third, Lewis hit her 3 to make it a six point game. But the Stars wouldn't score for the next 7:26, and saw the deficit increase to 26. They would get no closer than 20. Stokes had 12 points for Western Boone. The Stars are 1-4 on the season. Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 4 p.m. Will Willems is the Sports Editor of the Lebanon Reporter. Follow him on Twitter @Will_Willems. Saturday, November 22nd The Lady Stars Took Over Saturday Afternoon Against Crawfordsville The Lady Stars hit the floor Saturday afternoon at 4:00 and came out ready to dominate from the start. Western Boone looked sharp early as Junior guard Ally Lewis set the tone, knocking down shot after shot and keeping the pace high. Lewis was unstoppable all game long, pouring in 22 points to lead the Stars’ explosive offense. Isabella Grady came off the bench fired up and immediately made an impact on the boards. Grady battled for every rebound, finishing with 9, and giving the Stars second-chance looks that helped build early momentum. Emerson Gott matched that intensity inside, also pulling down 9 rebounds, using her strength in the paint to control the tempo and frustrate the opponent. Ila Stokes was the floor general all afternoon, pushing the ball, creating open shots, and finding her teammates in rhythm. Stokes finished with 5 assists, keeping the Stars’ offense moving smoothly as they continued to wear down their opponents. By halftime, Western Boone had full control, and the Stars only grew stronger as the game went on. Their defense tightened, their rebounding remained dominant, and the scoring never slowed. With contributions from across the roster, the Lady Stars pulled away and secured a commanding 30-point victory. It was a complete team win—energy, hustle, and execution from start to finish—as the Lady Stars continue to build confidence heading into their next matchup.
