The Western Boone Lady Stars came out shining in their season opener against the Speedway Sparkplugs, giving fans a game full of energy, grit, and three-pointers that lit up the gym. Senior guard Ila Stokes wasted no time heating up—draining the first three of the night and setting the tone early. But Speedway’s relentless first-quarter defense was no joke, forcing an incredible 11 turnovers and taking a 19–13 lead after one. The Stars didn’t back down. Stokes and Jaylee Dickerson answered with back-to-back deep balls to bring Western Boone within two, igniting the crowd. Still, Speedway’s Matelic found her rhythm, sinking her first three of the season to keep the Sparkplugs ahead. Down just two at the half, 31–29, the Stars looked ready to turn up the pressure. Senior Emerson Gott took over the third quarter, pouring in 10 points and ending the night with a strong double-double (18 points, 12 rebounds) in her final home opener. Isabella Fettig was also a force on the boards, grabbing rebounds and fighting for every loose ball. As the fourth quarter opened, the Stars trailed by just one. The gym buzzed with intensity—but Speedway’s Matelic caught fire, finishing with 24 points and helping the Sparkplugs pull away late for a seven-point win. Even with the loss, the Lady Stars left a powerful message: this squad has heart, hustle, and serious chemistry. They play with contagious energy and a never-quit attitude that makes every game worth watching. Catch the Lady Stars in action again at home against Rossville High School—you won’t want to miss it.
