Junior High Cross Country Leans on Youth for Quality 2025 Season

By Tommy Coy | Oct 25, 2025 9:05 AM

The number of cross-country runners was solid for the 2025 season at the junior high cross-country level, with a large number of them in the younger stages of their careers. Just two ladies & one gentleman will be lost to promotion to the high school next season for a squad that had a strong showing all season long. The future for both the boys and girls programs heading into the 2026 season. Waldron’s lady squad had strong showings throughout the season. The teams performed well at the Shelby County meet, finishing 2nd place behind a powerful Morristown squad. They would also finish 2nd to the Lady Jackets at the Hope Heritage Days Classic and in the MHC meet held at season’s end. Anna Stanton led the way for the ladies for much of the year, with sister Betsy Stanton, Ava Evans, Patience Meulen, Sophia Meriwether, Leighton Everette, Sophia Cole, and Katelyn Morrow all performing well all season long. The boys also had outstanding results in 2025. The boys also finished 2nd at the Shelby County meet, finished 4th in a strong Hope Heritage Days Classic Field, and 3rd at the MHC meet. Brothers Finn & Arlo Heiden were outstanding all season long, leading the Mohawk pack. Karsten Coy & Brayton Powell both pushed just behind the brothers all season long and continue to make and grow together. Another set of brothers, Gabe & Jermiah Dewhurst, also had outstanding seasons on the course. A pair of 4th graders also set their sights on the opportunity to compete and performed well. Vincent Morrow & Crayton Kuhn ran well in limited action due to age at some of our events. They will be full participants next season! The future is bright for both squads going into next season & the coaching staff is excited to see what they can do in the offseason heading into 2026.
