The Lady Mohawks wrapped up their season in thrilling fashion yesterday, claiming the County Tourney Championship after two big wins and five intense sets of volleyball. Game 1: Mohawks vs. Southwestern The Mohawks kicked off the tournament facing a determined Southwestern team. The first set began slowly, with serving looking shaky early on. But the Mohawks quickly found their rhythm. With several strong digs, solid net play, and improved serving, they pulled away for a 25-15 win. Set 2 proved more challenging. The Mohawks fell behind early but battled back with consistent serving and gritty play. Their perseverance paid off as they secured the set—and the match—with a hard-fought 25-18 win. Championship Match: Mohawks vs. Triton Central In the championship game, the Mohawks faced the always-tough Triton Central Tigers—a team they narrowly lost to in three tight sets earlier in the season. Fueled by that memory, the girls came out with something to prove. Strong serving from Kiya Scott, Mollie Rouse, and Caroline Kuhn powered the Mohawks to a Set 1 victory, 25-22. Remi Hewson and Caroline Kuhn each tallied 4 kills, while Mollie Rouse contributed 5 assists. Defensively, Evan England, Kuhn, and Rouse each made key digs that swung momentum the Mohawks' way. Set 2 was a different story. Coverage became a struggle, and frustration began to show. But the girls drew on the communication and mental toughness they’d been building all season—especially in recent weeks. They stayed focused, kept battling, and despite a 25-22 loss, refused to let the set define them. Set 3: Championship on the Line Set 3 was the ultimate test. The Mohawks fell behind by 6 points at one point, but a string of crucial digs by Evan England and Caroline Kuhn, along with clutch serving from Wryn Miller and Mollie Rouse, sparked a comeback. With the game on the line, Kiya Scott stepped up to serve—despite nerves—and delivered the game-winning ace, sealing a 15-12 victory over the Tigers. Every girl on the team gave maximum effort and left it all on the court. Support from Azalia Rader, Emma Bell, and Gracee McConnell was unmatched. Their presence was felt in every cheer, every word of encouragement, and every huddle. A true reflection that every teammate plays their part in building the team’s chemistry and drive. Both teams played with heart and intensity, making for an unforgettable championship match—just the way a County Tourney should be. The Lady Mohawks ended their season on a high note as County Tourney Champions, finishing with a final record of 8-7. Congratulations on a season full of growth, grit, and teamwork!
