The boys tennis team got to host the 2025 Shelby County tourney on Saturday and got to bring back the county trophy with an exciting 3-2 win over Triton Central in the finals! In the opening round, Waldron faced SW Shelby, who they faced just 5 days ago and won 5-0. The result would be the same as the Mohawks dominated all 5 matches to win 5-0 to get into the final. #1 singles Charlie Fischer won 6-0 , 6-0 over Kyle Beck. #2 singles Cash Young won 6-2, 6-0 over David Coulston. #3 singles Lincoln Fischer won by default. #1 doubles Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer and #2 doubles Connor Ping and Noah Mitchell both rolled 6-0, 6-0. Triton Central defeated Morristown 5-0 in the other semifinal. This setup another great battle with the Tigers. The Tigers have had out number the last few years and the Mohawks were determined to have some grit and determination to try to overcome a talented Triton Central team. #1 singles Charlie Fischer couldn't get things going against a talented Janssen Capps and lost 6-1 , 6-1 . #3 singles Lincoln Fischer looked impressive in beating Bradyn Robinson 6-2, 6-2. #2 singles Cash Young fought and fought , but lost a great kid and player Brayden Hoover 6-2, 6-4. With the Mohawks down 2-1 , the attention turned to both doubles matches and the rain coming!! #1 doubles Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer dropped the first set 6-4 and were down 4-1 in the second set before the shots started falling as they raced back with 5 straight games to win second set 6-4. In the third set , they used their momentum and great serving and shot selection to win 6-3 to tie the county title match at 2-2!! All eyes went to #2 doubles of Noah Mitchell and Owen Hartman who won the first set 6-3, then dropped the second set 6-1 to set up the deciding third set. Both players stayed poised and positive through the ups and downs of the third set to set up Noah to serve it out at 6-5. Noah got all but one first serve in and Owen had some great net shots to win 7-5 in the third set and bring the county title back to Waldron for the first time since 2019!! Great job young men!!
