Mohawks Tennis enjoy Silver Creek Invite on Friday and Saturday!

The Mighty Mohawks ventured down south on Friday night and Saturday to participate in a highly competitive 8 team Silver Creek Invite. The boys played really well and were competitive at all positions! Cash Young at #2 singles placed 3rd out of 8 teams with a 2-1 record!! Cash defeated Tyler Spells of Evansville Christian 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round! Saturday morning provided a tough test in Hunter Kendall from Evansville Memorial. This young freshman is going to have a great career as Cash fell 6-2, 6-3 in a hard fought match. Saturday afternoon Cash showed some grit in coming back from a set down to defeat Rhys Sorgius of Gibson Southern 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Gibson Southern is currently ranked #24 in the state! Great job Cash! #3 singles Lincoln Fischer placed 4th out of 8 teams. He opened up Friday night with a tough test from Aidan Williams of Gibson Southern. Aiden used a different style of play , often referred as backboard tennis, to defeat Lincoln 6-4, 6-4. Lincoln came back on Saturday determined to win both matches. Lincoln defeated Carson Williams of Silver Creek 6-0, 6-0 and then defeated Ian Radke of Evansville Christian 6-1, 6-0 to capture 4th! #2 doubles Owen Hartman and Noah Mitchell placed 6th of 8 teams. They opened up Friday night with a tough 6-4 , 6-3 defeat to Brittain/ Downey of Loogootee. Saturday morning they got back on track with a 6-1, 6-1 over S.Day/ E. Day of Silver Creek. The afternoon match was back and forth and they fought till the end. but came up a little short 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) to Baker/ Theby of Evansville Memorial. #1 doubles of Jackson Kuhn/ Caige Sheaffer got a tough draw in opening round and were matched up against a familiar foe in Seymour. Seymour still had our buddy Shun Takeuchi and he was joined by Braylon Busby this time around. Jackson and Caige took the first set 6-4, then Shun and Braylon came back to win sets 2 and 3 6-2, 6-3. Saturday morning , Jackson and Caige had another tough test in E. Graber/ Lyon of Loogootee. Another three set match that Loogootee pulled out in third set tiebreaker 2-6, 6-2, 2-10. Jackson and Caige finished off third match with a nice 6-0, 6-0 win over Peterson/ Moore of Evansville Christian to finish 7th! #1 singles Connor Ping took on the challenge subbing in for Charlie Fischer who will be returning this week! Connor had a tough draw as he drew the eventual champion in Riley Clift from Silver Creek falling 6-0, 6-0. Saturday morning , Connor was determined to do well and player Cooper Van Hoy from Loogootee. Connor held his own and actually was tied 3-3 in the first set before falling 6-3, 6-2. The final match of the day , Connor had many fans from other teams rooting him on to pull out a victory at the top spot. Connor won the first 6-2 over Chase Spiehs from Silver Creek and the excitement was building . Connor fought through the second set and Chase made some adjustment and took it 6-3. that set up the 10 point tiebreaker and Connor came up just a little short in falling 10-4! Great effort from Connor!
