On Thursday evening, the Mohawks traveled to Rushville to play the Lions. This was the second matchup between the two teams within the time span of a week. While the Mohawks sailed to a 4-1 victory against the Lions at the Waldron Invite, winning the 1 Singles, 2 Singles, 1 Doubles, and 2 Doubles position, Thursday night's match saw new teammates rise to the occasion to help the Mohawks pull out the win. Varsity Scores: 1 Singles - Noah Leap with a score of 3-8. Leap played hard but struggled to push to the end to claim victory. 2 Singles - Harrison Fischer with a score of 2-8. Fischer played a tough opponent who pushed him all around the court and used that strategy to come out on top. 3 Singles - Austin Lemmons with a score of 8-4. This was Lemmons' second time at Varsity 3 Singles and his first win! As his match was coming to a close with the match still being undecided, Lemmons did a great job staying cool and consistent with his opponent. 1 Doubles - Ollee Kuhns and Lucas Lemmons with a score of 8-2. With a usual 1 Doubles player out, Kuhns and Lemmons took on the challenge of playing together for the first time to be during a match. They worked well together and did exactly what they needed to do to beat their opponents. 2 Doubles - Tanner Cockerham and Trent Allen with a score of 8-2. Cockerham and Allen played the same opponents that they played at the Waldron Invite, but they still went in cool, calm, and collected to win. JV Scores: 1 Singles - Max Leising with a score of 8-6. Leising was ahead early when the Lions closed the gap toward the end of the match. Leising buckled in for the last few games and came out on top. 2 Singles - Deegan Smith with a score of 8-0. Smith breezed through his match with ease and some nice-looking serves. 1 Doubles - Garrett Stockling and Karsten Coy with a score of 8-0. Stocklin and Coy cruised through their match to beat the Varsity 2 Doubles team (who graciously played 3 matches) without giving up any games. 2 Doubles - Kiefer Cockerham and Wyatt Myers with a score of 5-6 (5-7). Cockerham and Myers played a great, close match and brought the match to a tiebreak. The tiebreak was a nail-biter as well, as they lost the tiebreak with a close score of 5-7. 3 Doubles - Hunter James and Eli Biller with a score of 1-6. James and Biller are figuring out the doubles partnership and working well together, but the Lions strokes were too well-placed for the Mohawks. The Mohawks move to 5-1 for the season as the matches start to pick up with September underway. The Mohawks are back next week with three matches to play: New Castle Away (Monday), Shelbyville Home (Tuesday), and Seymour Home (Thursday).
