The Mohawks traveled to Seymour this evening to take on the Lady Owls of Seymour Middle School. The Mohawks battled hard tonight to come away with a 4-1 win. Tonight's match was not just about tennis ability, but was a testament to their mental toughness. They were able to mentally stay in the match and keep emotions off of the court. Varsity Scores: 1 Singles - Caroline Kuhn with a score of 8-1. Kuhn played a long match with many back and forth rallies, but was able to outdo her opponent both physically and mentally to come out on top. 2 Singles - Gracie Walker with a score of 8-6. After starting off with a 3-0 lead, Walker's opponent came back to win four games alongside Walker's two games, leaving the score 5-4. Walker continued to play strong and topped her opponent off 8-6 in the end. 3 Singles - Evan England with a score of 6-8. England played well tonight but was unable to claim a victory. England has faced some decent 3 Singles players this season and continues to improve and mark her claim as a top player. 1 Doubles - Alexis Messmore and Jenna Strehle with a score of 9-8 (10-7). Messmore and Strehle started off slow, but were able to stay in their match to force a tiebreaker at 8-8. They kept the wheels spinning and claimed a victory with a tiebreak score of 10-7. 2 Doubles - Brooklyn Thomas and Vivian Kuhn with a score of 9-8 (7-5). Thomas and Kuhn started off their match 0-4. But after a quick chat with Coach and a reminder to move their feet, they were able to fight back to win five straight games to make the score 5-4. They played tight until 8-8 when their match called for a tiebreaker, which they won 7-5. JV Scores: 1 Doubles - Gracee McConnell and Caroline Thomas with a score of 6-3. McConnell and Thomas played a solid match by limiting their unforced errors and playing a smart match. In the end, they were able to defeat their opponents. 2 Doubles - Avery Smith and Dani Berauer with a score of 3-6. Smith and Berauer battled their twice experienced opponents in another solid match. Although they were unable to come out on top, they played well and had some nicely placed shots. The Mohawks gear up for another long 4-match week where they will take on Brown County, Morristown, Hauser, and Triton, all teams that they will face in their high school careers.
