Waldron Hopes High For Successful 2025-2026

Two familiar faces will be seen frequently on the court & sidelines for the 2025-2026 season at Waldron. New head coach Doug Laker is no stranger to coaching or to Waldron, having spent the last few seasons at North Decatur before taking the reigns of the Waldron Lady Mohawks basketball program. Laker's success wherever he has been speak for itself, and the hope is that this success will continue at Waldron. What will help is a quality nucleus of returning players and a key piece returning from injury. Senior Emerson Lindsey returns as the teams leading scorer from the 2024-2025 season. Fellow senior Jackie Corlett returns with a lot of experience and put forth a quality 2024-2025, with hopes of taking a big step forward this season. The biggest spark will be the return of junior Grace Fischer to the court for the Lady Mohawks. Fischer missed the entire 2024-2025 season with an ACL tear. She was one of the Mohawks best scorers as a freshman, and with the sharpshooter Lindsey and tough play of Corlett, the Lady Mohawks look to have a solid scoring threat. Juniors Riley Thurston & Brooklyn Milbourn return in 2025-2026 after gaining quality experience last season. Milbourn is a strong presence in the post, with Thurston being a steady defender and rock solid ball-handler for the Lady Mohawks. Both will round out the projected Lady Mohawk starting five for the start of the season. After that, the depth will be provided by a young core of talented but inexperienced underclassmen. Leading the way are sophomores Kassidy Meulen & Averi Scheele. Meulen is a quality shooter that never seems to get tired defensively while Scheele is a steady presence defensively and handles the ball well. The freshmen class is also a quality group. However, they will have to do without the services of arguably their most talented scoring freshman in Arianna Thomas, as she tore her ACL during the summer & will miss the 2025-2026 season. Classmates Kate Kuhn, Kendall Berauer, & Abby Crouch have played a lot of basketball and look to adjust to the high school level well. The Lady Mohawks open the 2025-2026 season at home when they take on the Indy Lutheran Lady Saints tonight, November 8th. The JV contest will tipoff at 6:00 PM, and will be only 2 quarters. The varsity will follow. The excitement for the season is high! We look forward to seeing Mohawk Nation at a game!!!
