The JH teams ran with the high school teams on Tuesday at Harter Park for the Randolph County Meet and ran some of their best times of the season or their careers. A lot of times the JH doesn't get the recognition that they deserve but they are the backbone to the high school sports and a lot of times they leave it all out there when they are competing and if you ever get the chance to go and check out the JH sports you will see that they give it 110% and that is exactly what they did during the county meet and the results show that. Christiana Teegarden, Lyla Baldwin, Aleah Lacy and Sofia Kobus lined up for the girls race and missing one more runner to make it a complete team they all battled with the rest of the girls in the county. It was Christiana Teegarden leading the way for the Indians as she battled for the top spot all race before crossing the finish line in 2nd place with a new PR time of 14:22 and earning All County. Lyla Baldwin was the next Indian to cross the finish line placing 10th to earn all county honors and a new PR time of 16:37 and beating her previous best time by 18 seconds. Baldwin hung right with the lead pack for most of the race and that helped her achieve her new best time. Aleah Lacy was the next girl to cross the finish line and while it wasn't her PR she was able to run a great race and compete with the top 20 throughout the race. After having knee problems throughout the year it has been good seeing her get back on track heading into the last part of the season. Lacy finished 21st with a time of 19:22. Sofia Kobus battled in her first meet on the Union City course and was able to finish in the top 25 placing 25th with a time of 22:55. Kobus came in to the season late and has put in the work to be able to be competitive and she was able to show that on Tuesday. In the Boys race it was Xander Elkins, Reid Kerns, Mikkel Hartman, Rowan Jones, Brantlee Kobus and Seth Gaddy lined when the gun went off to start. As a team the boys gave it everything they had and were able to finish 3rd as a team and just missing second by 4 points. Xander Elkins lead the Indians placing second after going back and forth with the eventual winner throughout the while race. Elkins had the lead with just over a half mile to go then crossed the finish line in 2nd place with a time of 13:51 to beat his previous PR by 9 seconds and earned All County honors. Reid Kerns was the next Indian to cross the finish line as he placed 5th with a time of 14:03. Reid made some big passes with just over a half mile to go to work his way up to the 5th place spot. Reid set a new PR on Tuesday beating his previous best time by 24 seconds and earned All County. Mikkel Hartman was the next Indian to finish placing 6th right behind Kerns. Hartman ran his best race of his career on the home course finishing with a time of 14:06 to be the third Indian boy to earn All County. Mikkel is also a dual sport athlete for the JH playing soccer when he is not running. Rowan Jones had a 28 second PR on the course that he previously set a couple weeks ago and placed 23rd for the Indians with a new best time of 18:10. As a 6th grader Jones has been able to battle and beat kids that are in 7th and 8th grade and we hope he continues to run and improve like he has all season. Brantlee Kobus another 6th grader was also battling with the older kids on Tuesday as he placed 30th for the Indians with a time of 20:51. Kobus just missed out on his PR that he set on September 24th on the home course. Brantlee is another one that with time and practice will be a big part of teams to come. Seth Gaddy a 6th grader was the next Indian to cross the finish line placing 35th with a time of 27:25. Gaddy also started the season late and has been sick over the last so we will see a lot big things out of him as he continues to get stronger and run more. The JH will be back in action on Saturday as they head to Winchester for the Winchester Invitational.
