Saturday morning the Indians traveled to Taylor University for the Delta Cross Country Sectional. Heading into the meet all of the runners knew that they were going to need big performances to advance on to next week's regional meet. After just setting a new PR a week ago at the Randolph County meet Ava Jefferis did it once again in the sectional. Ava started the race very strong like she has all season and after the first mile was holding on to 23rd place with no sign of slowing down. Ava continued to maintain her spot then came to the two-mile mark with cheers from her family and the boys team. Coming around to the finish it was going to be a PR but no one knew by how much. Ava crossed the finish line in 23rd place with a new PR of 22:13 and beating her old PR of 23:08. The boy's race was filled with ups and downs as Conner Walser and Conner Cline both started off the race very fast for the Indians, but it was short lived as at the mile mark both were battling cramps and back pain. Walser crossed the finish line in 54th place for the Indians with a time of 19:51 while Cline crossed the line in 62nd place with a time of 20:24. Josiah Bowers was on the gas once again for the Indians like he has been all season. Josiah finished the season with a 74th place finish with a new PR of 23:13. This was the 5th time that Josiah has beat his previous best time. Scott O'Connor ran his best race of the season for the Indians beating his previous best time by four seconds. Scott started the race fast and was able to maintain throughout the race to finish just ahead of Gavin. After having an injury last week this was a race that Scott needed. O'Connor finished 77th with a time of 24:16. Gavin Elmore has come a long way this season and today was no different. Gavin is the king at reeling people in with one mile to go. As Gavin crossed mile two there was a gap that he needed to make up and he did just that. Gavin placed 78th for the Indians with a time of 24:20.0 just three seconds away from beating his PR. Ava will be back in action next Saturday at Taylor University beginning at 10:30 am.
