Union City travels to Hagerstown A trip into Wayne County offers the young Indians an opportunity for a first victory, but its far from a sure thing. One thing is for sure, the Indians won't be coming home with a win if they continue to shoot themselves in the foot. Behind freshman quarterback Jayson Connor the Indians showed they can move the chains, even against a well-coached Monroe Central team. Senior Alex Spence is a good weapon, totaling 113 all-purpose yards. Sophomore Braden Daniels has play-making abilities. Inopportune penalties and turnovers, though, plagued the Indians and kept them off the scoreboard. Some of that can be attributed to youth, but Keith Maloy knows those mistakes must be eliminated if the Indians are to win ball games. "We have looked at both the Tri and Monroe Central game to identify what we are doing well. Our goal is to take those things and focus on that," Maloy said. "For us, it's not about the opponent we are facing, it is more about us and getting better each week. We are excited about heading to Hagerstown and we are optimistic that we can get this thing moving in the right direction." Hagerstown has a strong football tradition in football but has fallen on rough times over the past fews years. Last year the Tigers finished just 1-8 and in 2020 were 0-10. But overall, Hagerstown owns a 31-11 series lead in the past 35 years. The Indians won last year's affair 35-9 at Union City. Rick Reed News-Gazette Sports Editor
