Indians Cross Country has great start to season

The Indian Cross Country teams started their season on Tuesday competing at the Ethan Cheeseman Memorial Invitational and while the weather was not perfect with wind, rain and fall like temps all of the Indian runners ran better times than they did at the meet last season. The boys race first this season and they set the tone for how the meet was going to go for Ava. Conner Walser lead the way for the boys with a PR for the course and a solid 3rd place finish. Walser and second place battled back and forth most of the meet before crossing the line to finish with a time of 18:34. Freshman Levi Clark started his high school career on Tuesday and after a great showing in practice put it together and ran to a 20th place finish with a time of 20:22. While Levi was nervous on the line waiting for the race to start the leadership of the team kept him composed and helped him to a solid finish to start the season. Junior Conner Cline started the season like he didn't skip a beat from last season. After being out of a running sport for almost an entire year Cline crossed the finish line in 32nd with a time of 22:26 beating his time from last year by two seconds. Conner is always one to watch coming to the last 200 meters and he didn't disappoint yesterday as he passed three runners before crossing the finish line. Scott O'Connor ran as an exhibition due to needing one more practice to compete and set a new PR from last season with a time of 23:59. Scott has been putting in a lot of work at practice and it showed during the first meet by taking 16 seconds off of his previous best time. In the girls race Ava Jefferis lined up as the lone girl representing Union City and she came out of the gate and ran one of her best races of her high school career. Ava finished 6th with a time of 23:59 but most importantly she ran a great race throughout while dealing with bad weather conditions. Ava finished just 46 seconds shy of her PR that she set last season at the Delta sectional. There is a lot of bright spots with this small team and they will continue to improve throughout the season and be ready when the time comes for sectional. The Indians are back in action on Saturday at Monroe Central for the Meister Family Memorial Run beginning at 10:00.
