UNION MILLS — Braxton Kaufman made school history Saturday while helping Triton move one win away from a sectional championship. Kaufman earned his 21st career pitching victory, breaking Triton’s career wins record previously held by Tyler Hensley, as the Trojans defeated North Judson-San Pierre 4-1 in the Sectional semifinal at South Central. Kaufman gave Triton four strong innings on the mound, allowing four hits, one unearned run and one walk while striking out three. Drew Bingamon took over from there and closed the door, throwing three scoreless innings of relief. Bingamon allowed two hits, walked none and struck out three. North Judson took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but Triton answered in the bottom half. The Trojans tied the game at 1-1 in the second, moved in front with a run in the third, then added two insurance runs in the sixth. Triton finished with eight hits in the win. Blake Ousley helped lead the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Maddox Dennie also had two hits and scored a run. Bingamon went 1-for-2 with a triple, a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. Kaufman added a hit and an RBI to go with his record-breaking pitching performance. Max Johnson doubled and scored, while Jadyn Prater singled, scored and drove in a run. North Judson was led by Ayson Harper, Blaine Busse, Brody Benson, Aidan Christensen, Andrew Chambers and Orrin Ball, who each had one hit. Chambers drove in the Bluejays’ lone run. Bradley Irzyk took the loss for North Judson, pitching six innings and allowing eight hits, four earned runs and one walk while striking out six. With the win, Triton advanced to the Sectional championship game on Monday, June 1, 5:30 pm ET at South Central.
