WABASH — The Triton boys track and field team turned in a strong performance Friday evening at the Wabash Apache Invitational, finishing third overall with 70.5 points in a competitive five-team field. Maconaquah captured the team title with 112 points, followed by Wabash with 82, while Triton finished ahead of Elwood (40) and Indiana Math & Science (28.5). Senior Jayden Overmyer delivered Triton’s top individual finish of the meet, winning the shot put with a throw of 42-8.5. Overmyer also reached the finals of the 100-meter dash, placing fifth in 11.98, giving the Trojans points in both the field and sprint events. Triton also picked up a win in the 4x100 meter relay, as the Trojans raced to first place in 45.10, edging Maconaquah’s runner-up time of 45.49. The Trojans nearly added another relay title in the 4x400, finishing second in 3:39.22, just behind Maconaquah’s winning time of 3:38.94. Triton also placed third in the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:29.40. Isaac Quintana led Triton’s sprint group with two strong finishes, placing third in the 200 meters in 23.66 and third in the 400 meters in 51.84. Cayden Bradley added a fifth-place finish in the 200 at 24.05, while Jackson Faulkner placed seventh in the 400 at 56.76. In the hurdles, Vinny Prater finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.58, while Brady Heckaman placed third in the 300-meter hurdles in 47.15. Triton also received strong distance performances from Lincoln Williams, who was third in the 800 in 2:11.72, Grant Williams, who was fourth in the 800 in 2:20.24, Matthew Hernandez, who placed seventh in the 1600 in 5:20.18, and Brayden Nifong, who finished fifth in the 3200 in 12:21.50. The Trojans added more field-event points behind Cayden Bradley’s runner-up finish in the pole vault at 11-0, Tyler Painton’s third-place mark in the long jump at 18-5, Isaiah Brink’s tie for fourth in the high jump at 5-2, and Max Ritchison’s fifth-place throw in the discus at 110-8 and sixth-place mark in the shot put at 36-7.
