WALKERTON — The Triton High School girls tennis team opened its season in impressive fashion Wednesday, defeating John Glenn 4–1 on the road. The Lady Trojans controlled the match from the outset, winning four of the five varsity flights and claiming all four of those victories in straight sets. Triton started strong in doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, Sierra Hawley and Brooke Kitch posted a 6–1, 6–2 win over Haylee Isbell and Ariah Haines. At No. 2 doubles, Sophie Howell and Savannah Hawley added another point with a commanding 6–1, 6–0 victory against Sammy Walker and Trinity Stackman. The Lady Trojans were just as solid in singles. Ana Ardila earned a 6–3, 6–2 win over Vivian Stephens at No. 1 singles, while Sydney Heckaman turned in one of the most decisive performances of the evening with a 6–0, 6–1 victory against Nora Guseilla at No. 2 singles. John Glenn’s lone point came at No. 3 singles in the closest match of the night. Triton’s Janica Kemp battled Lauren Allsop through three sets. Allsop captured the opening set in a tiebreak, 7–6 (7–3), before Kemp answered with a 6–2 second-set win. In the deciding 10-point tiebreak, Allsop secured the point for the Falcons. The JV match was much tighter, with John Glenn edging Triton 4–3. In doubles play, Madison Wright and Natalie Mevis fell to Lydia Bowers and Leslie Roush, 6–2. Triton answered at No. 2 doubles, where Addison Lemler and Adylyn Stichter picked up a 6–1 win over Klaire Kemp and Katelyn Tiffany. However, John Glenn reclaimed the lead at No. 3 doubles, as Aura Cabello and Lia Kudenheldt slipped past Lemler and Stichter in a close 6–5 decision. Singles play proved just as competitive. Alexis Young dropped a 6–4 match to Reese Blair at No. 1 singles and later fell 7–5 to Emily Harness at No. 2 singles. Triton picked up two singles victories behind Madison Wright, who delivered a strong showing with a 6–2 win over Anna White and a dominant 6–0 victory against Erin Harrison.
