Tonight the Triton Trojans travel to take on the undefeated Kouts Mustangs in what promises to be an exciting non-conference showdown between two of the top Class 1A programs in the state. The Trojans enter tonight's contest with a 7-and-1 record under head coach Jason Groves, who is in his 21st season at Triton with a career record of 353-151. Triton is coming off a hard-fought 42-37 overtime victory against LaVille in their last outing, showing the resilience and determination that has defined their season. The Trojans are averaging 55.1 points per game while holding opponents to just 36.3 points per contest. Triton's offensive attack is led by senior Brady Wood, who's averaging 13.0 points per game on 48.7 percent shooting. The Trojans also get strong contributions from Julian Swanson at 10.1 points per game, Gage Riffle with 9.8 points per game, and Jayden Overmyer, who adds 8.1 points and a team-leading 5.9 rebounds per game. Senior point guard Landon Patrick is the floor general, dishing out 4.4 assists per game while also leading the team with 4.1 steals per game. Standing in their way are the Kouts Mustangs, undefeated at 7-and-0 and ranked 82nd overall in the Sagarin ratings—3rd among all Class 1A schools in the state. Head coach Kevin Duzan, in his 11th year at Kouts with a record of 181-82, has his squad firing on all cylinders. In their last outing, the Mustangs demolished Frontier 78-51, shooting an impressive 62 percent from the field and 56 percent from three-point range while dishing out 20 assists. The Mustangs are averaging 68.6 points per game while holding opponents to just 40 points per contest. Kouts features a potent offensive attack led by Lucas Kleckner, who's averaging 23.4 points per game and has connected on 27 three-pointers this season. The Mustangs also get significant contributions from Billy Miller at 11.7 points per game, Eli Harper with 11.0 points per game, and Landon Barrett, who chips in 11.1 points per game along with a team-high 51 rebounds. This matchup features a significant challenge for the Trojans, facing opponents with a combined 38-29 record this season compared to Triton's opponents at 30-51. The Mustangs hold a 2-1 advantage in the series over the last 40 years, including a 56-42 regional victory back in March of 2021—the last time these two programs met.
