TC FOOTBALL EARNS FIRST HLC WIN OVER TRI-WEST. The Triton Central Tigers made history Friday night, earning their first-ever Hoosier Legends Conference victory with a thrilling 17-14 road win over Tri-West. The victory not only improved the Tigers to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in HLC play, but it also secured possession of the inaugural Battle of Interstate 74 traveling trophy for Triton Central. Running back Braden Brown powered the Tigers’ offense, rushing for 197 yards on 26 carries with two touchdowns. His first score, a four-yard run in the opening quarter, tied the game 7-7. In the second quarter, Brown broke loose for a 92-yard touchdown dash that gave Triton Central a 14-7 halftime advantage. Tri-West answered in the third quarter with a 21-yard touchdown pass, knotting the game at 14-14 heading into the fourth. The difference came late, when kicker Nick Tormoehlen split the uprights with a 19-yard field goal to give the Tigers the winning margin. Tormoehlen also went 2-for-2 on extra points. Quarterback Matthew Wilkins contributed through the air, completing 9 of 15 passes for 132 yards. His top target was Brayden Whitlow, who hauled in three catches for 73 yards. Zeke Robertson added 52 yards rushing and 19 yards receiving, while Henry Kemper chipped in a 22-yard reception. Defensively, the Tigers were opportunistic, holding Tri-West to just 12% on third downs and forcing a key interception. Devon Gurganus led with nine total tackles, while Judea Holt tallied seven stops and snagged the interception. Cooper Marlin added nine tackles of his own. Overall, Triton Central outgained Tri-West 380-225, with a balanced attack of 248 rushing yards and 132 passing yards. The victory capped an exciting weekend for the Tigers, as the junior varsity squad also claimed a 24-6 win over Tri-West on Saturday morning at Triton Central. The JV Tigers improved to 1-2 on the season. Next up, Triton Central (3-0, 1-0 HLC) returns home Friday night to host Monrovia in another conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 PM as the Tigers look to stay unbeaten.
