TC FOOTBALL FALLS SHORT AT SPEEDWAY. Triton Central battled all night Friday in its first Hoosier Legends Conference game of the season, but the Tigers came up just short on the road, falling to Speedway 21-20. The loss drops Triton Central to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in HLC play. TC jumped on the scoreboard first in the opening quarter when Matthew Wilkins connected with Henry Kemper on a 29-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was unsuccessful, leaving the Tigers with a 6-0 advantage. Speedway answered with two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 13-6 lead, but the Tigers responded before halftime. Wilkins found Dylan Showalter for a 57-yard touchdown, and Kemper added the two-point conversion run to put TC back in front 14-13. Neither team scored in the third quarter, leaving the Tigers holding a one-point advantage heading into the final quarter. Speedway regained the lead early in the fourth quarter when Mazeed Ishola hauled in a 79-yard touchdown pass from Conner Battle. The two-point conversion gave the Sparkplugs a 21-14 advantage. Triton Central refused to go quietly. Wilkins connected with Kemper for a 43-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-20, but the Tigers were unable to convert the ensuing two-point attempt, leaving Speedway with the one-point victory. Wilkins turned in another strong performance through the air, completing 9-of-24 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns. Kemper was his top target, catching four passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns, while Showalter added two receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Landon Ball carried 20 times for 90 yards, while Wilkins added 36 rushing yards on eight carries. The Tigers finished with 384 total yards, including 227 passing and 157 rushing, and recorded 17 first downs. Defensively, Ty Bergman led TC with seven tackles and three assists, while Weston Smith added six tackles, one assist, a sack and three tackles for loss. Nolan Thompson contributed five tackles and two assists, and Kye West recorded four tackles and three tackles for loss. Despite the loss, the Tigers showed plenty of offensive firepower, totaling 384 yards against a Speedway defense that held TC to just 20 points. The Tigers will now turn their attention to another tough HLC matchup. Tigers Host Unbeaten Beech Grove on Homecoming Triton Central returns home Friday night to host Beech Grove, which enters the matchup with a 3-0 overall record and a 1-0 mark in HLC play. Kickoff at Triton Central is scheduled for 7 PM. JV Tigers Pick Up First Win The Triton Central JV football team picked up its first victory of the season Saturday, defeating Speedway 24-20 at home. The win moves the JV Tigers to 1-2 on the season. The JV Tigers will hit the road next Saturday to take on Beech Grove, with kickoff scheduled for 10 AM.
