BOYS TENNIS VS. SHELBYVILLE (9/3)

TC BOYS TENNIS LOSES TIGHT BATTLE TO SHELBYVILLE. Triton Central boys tennis battled Shelbyville on the road Thursday night but came up just short, falling 3-2 in a hard-fought Hoosier Legends Conference matchup. The Tigers are now 7-4 overall and 3-1 in HLC play. Triton Central picked up both of its team points in singles play. At No. 2 singles, Bradyn Robinson battled back after dropping the second set to defeat Shelbyville's Bram Kolkmeier, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7. The Tigers also earned a thrilling victory at No. 3 singles. Drayton Kermode overcame Kody Sellers, 4-6, 6-4, 14-12, in an extended third-set tiebreaker to give TC its second point. Shelbyville earned its first point at No. 1 singles, where Kashton Laycock defeated Brayden Hoover, 6-2, 6-2. The Golden Bears then secured the team victory by sweeping both doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Cooper Reed and Jack Van Wye defeated Graham Gast and Cash Eck, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2 doubles, Grant Tackett and Owen Shively defeated Colton Ayres and Owen Rice, 6-1, 6-4. JV Tigers Fall to Shelbyville The Triton Central JV team also dropped its HLC matchup with Shelbyville, falling 3-1. The Tigers are now 3-4-1 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Jason Gregory earned Triton Central's lone team point at No. 2 singles, defeating Conner Clagg, 8-6. Shelbyville won at No. 1 singles, as Lane Haehl defeated Brylon Scott, 8-3. The Golden Bears also took both doubles matches. Henry Rife and Graham Breedlove defeated Hyatt Watson and AJ Wittman, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, while Kelby Castillo and Kodou Ishii edged Robbie Brown and Luke Dunn, 8-7(5), at No. 2 doubles. Triton Central will now have several days to regroup before returning to the court next week. The Tigers' next match is scheduled for Thursday at Hauser, with action beginning at 4:30 PM.
