Summit High School is welcoming a familiar face back to the baseball diamond as Chad Kirby returns to lead the Spartans baseball program for the 2027 season. Few individuals have had a greater impact on Summit athletics than Kirby, who was named the school's first athletic director and head baseball coach in September 2010 ahead of Summit's opening in August 2011. After helping establish the foundation of the school's athletic culture from day one, Kirby now returns to the dugout where he built one of the most successful programs in school history. Before arriving at Summit, Kirby served as head baseball coach at Ravenwood High School, where he guided the Raptors to two district championships, a region title, and a state tournament appearance. When Summit opened its doors in 2011, Kirby embraced the challenge of building a baseball program from the ground up. Over the next 12 seasons, the Spartans emerged as a consistent contender in Middle Tennessee. During his first tenure, Kirby compiled more than 230 victories, captured four district championships and three region titles, and led Summit to two TSSAA state tournament appearances. His 2016 squad established a school record with 35 victories and earned a trip to the state tournament, while the 2019 team advanced to the Spring Fling and finished with a 2-2 record in Murfreesboro. The Spartans posted 20-plus victories in consecutive seasons leading up to his resignation as head coach following the 2023 season, while he continued serving the school community as athletics director and teacher.
