Southwood 7th Grade Boys Basketball Team Falls Short in Close Matchup With Rochester.

The Southwood 7th grade boys’ basketball team was back in action against conference opponent Rochester last night. The Knights shot the ball well, scoring a season-high 19 points in the first quarter. Cade Pershing hit (2) three-point shots, Bray Bassett, and Dylan Hurst both added three-point shots in the first quarter for a (19-9) first-quarter lead. Despite great shooting by the Knights, Rochester stayed in their zone and slowed the Knight's attack by holding them to only one basket in the second quarter. The halftime score was 20-17 in favor of the Knights. The teams battled back and forth throughout the second half, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats. The game came down to the wire with Southwood battling foul trouble with starting forward Grady Dillon missing time with (3) fouls in the first half but contributing (3) big rebounds and (4) points in the contest. Dylan Hurst battled a leg injury to finish the contest with (4) rebounds and (8) points. Bray Bassett led the team in scoring with (13) points as the Knights had a chance to tie the game with eleven seconds on the clock. Ultimately, the Knights came up short with a 36-33 hard-fought loss to Rochester.
