The Southwood Knights boys basketball team escaped the castle with a 74-67 win over the Blackford Bruins. The Knights had a great defensive second quarter, holding Blackford to two points and taking a ten point lead into halftime at 29-19. Bryce Wilcox lead the way scoring 17 points in the half. The third quarter saw the Knights explode for 28 points and extend their lead to 57-34 going into the final quarter. Griffin Chambers lead the Knights in the quarter with ten points. Six of the seven Knights to play in the quarter scored. With 5:30 remaining in the game, Southwood held a 67-40 lead and looked like a victory was near to come. The Bruins went on a 20-0 run over the next three minutes to slice the lead to seven points with 2:30 remaining. A layup by Wilcox finally stopped the run and 5/8 shooting from the free throw line helped hold off the comeback and the Knights escaped with their first victory of the season.
