May 21, 2026 vs. Manchester A walk-off left Southwood Varsity Knights on the wrong end of an 8-7 defeat to Manchester on Thursday. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the eighth when Hadley West singled, scoring one run. Southwood Varsity Knights lost despite out-hitting Manchester 13 to 10. Nika Tyson, Gracie Lambert, Hayven Schipper, Natalie Sutphin, Alivia Pershing, and Taylor Haecker each collected two hits for Southwood Varsity Knights. Manchester opened the scoring in the bottom of the third thanks to three singles. Manchester first got on the board when West singled, scoring one run. Southwood Varsity Knights flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 6-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Pershing that drove in two. Allie Egolf singled to center field, which helped Manchester tie the game at six in the bottom of the seventh. Southwood Varsity Knights took the lead in the top of the eighth. Tyson singled, scoring one run, to give Southwood Varsity Knights the upper hand, 7-6. Manchester captured the lead, 8-7, in the bottom of the eighth after Ava Sautter walked, and West singled to center field, each scoring one run. Elin Betten earned the win for Manchester. The starter gave up 11 hits and five runs (four earned) over seven and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking seven. Makenzie Wilson took the loss for Southwood Varsity Knights. The pitcher went five innings, allowing eight runs (five earned) on nine hits, striking out five and walking three. Sutphin stepped in the circle first for Southwood Varsity Knights. The righty gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking none. Southwood Varsity Knights tallied 13 hits in the game. Pershing led Southwood Varsity Knights with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Izzy Ashba paced Southwood Varsity Knights with four walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Manchester collected 10 hits in the game. Alexis Jarrett, Ely Mobley, Sautter, and West each collected two hits for Manchester. Jarrett and West each drove in two runs for Manchester. Sautter stole two bases. Manchester stole four bases in the game. Manchester turned two double plays in the game. Southwood Varsity Knights will travel to Adams Central for their next game on Saturday.
