Knights Fall On Walk Off Grand Slam At Manchester

A walk-off left Southwood Varsity Knights on the wrong end of a 12-10 defeat to Manchester Squires Baseball on Thursday. Manchester Squires Baseball were down 10-8 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Harper Sturtsman hit a grand slam to left field. Despite the loss, Southwood Varsity Knights did collect 11 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Manchester Squires Baseball had seven hits on the way to victory. Manchester Squires Baseball got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Hunter Hamilton walked, and Southwood Varsity Knights committed an error, each scoring one run. Southwood Varsity Knights jumped into the lead in the top of the third when Tripper Schnepp singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs. Manchester Squires Baseball captured the lead, 5-3, in the bottom of the third when an error scored one run, and Schnepp induced Landen Bean to hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored. Southwood Varsity Knights tied the game up in the top of the fifth thanks to two singles. Southwood Varsity Knights tied the game at six on a single by Coan Holloway. A wild pitch gave Manchester Squires Baseball the lead, 7-6, in the bottom of the fifth. Southwood Varsity Knights captured the lead, 10-8, in the top of the seventh when Owen Davis singled, scoring two runs, Holloway doubled, scoring one run, and Eli Shelhamer drew a walk, scoring one run. Dallas Martin earned the win for Manchester Squires Baseball. The right-handed pitcher gave up two hits and two runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Schnepp opened the game for Southwood Varsity Knights. The pitcher surrendered six hits and 10 runs (six earned) over six and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking seven. Bean started the game for Manchester Squires Baseball. The starter allowed nine hits and eight runs (four earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. Southwood Varsity Knights collected 11 hits in the game. Holloway and Schnepp each collected three hits for Southwood Varsity Knights. Davis and Holloway each drove in two runs for Southwood Varsity Knights. Southwood Varsity Knights turned one double play in the game. Sturtsman provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Manchester Squires Baseball with five runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Cody Carroll and Sturtsman each collected two hits for Manchester Squires Baseball. Bean led Manchester Squires Baseball with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Camden Hemmer stole two bases. Manchester Squires Baseball ran wild on the base paths, collecting four stolen bases for the game. Southwood Varsity Knights will travel to Wabash Varsity Apaches for their next game on Saturday.
