Southwood Varsity Knights Stymied By Maconaquah Varsity Braves

Southwood Varsity Knights had trouble keeping up with Maconaquah Varsity Braves in an 18-3 loss on Monday. Maconaquah Varsity Braves got on the board in the first inning after an error scored one run. Schnepp grounded out, which helped Southwood Varsity Knights tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second, Maconaquah Varsity Braves broke up the tie when a dropped third strike scored one run. Then a ground out by Mercer followed to extend the lead to 4-1. Maconaquah Varsity Braves scored six runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. An error scored one run, Mitchell singled, scoring two runs, Gochenhour singled, scoring two runs, and Sims doubled, scoring one run. Helmuth earned the win for Maconaquah Varsity Braves. The starting pitcher allowed one hit and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out seven and walking two. Davis took the loss for Southwood Varsity Knights. The hurler went two and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 runs (zero earned) on four hits, striking out three and walking two. Schnepp led Southwood Varsity Knights with one run batted in. Davis led Southwood Varsity Knights with one hit in two at bats. Sturgill and Gidley each stole multiple bases for Southwood Varsity Knights. Southwood Varsity Knights ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game. Maconaquah Varsity Braves amassed nine hits in the game. Mitchell led Maconaquah Varsity Braves with four runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The third baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Richards went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Maconaquah Varsity Braves in hits. Maconaquah Varsity Braves had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. Sims and Grzeyorski led the team with two walks each. Sims and Helmuth each stole multiple bases for Maconaquah Varsity Braves.
