Northwestern scored seven runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat Southwood Varsity Knights 12-1 on Wednesday. Southwood Varsity Knights were the first to get on the board in the first when Height grounded out, scoring one run. Northwestern flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring seven runs on two hits to take the lead, 7-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by #6 that drove in three. A fly out by #6 extended the Northwestern lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the second inning. Northwestern added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Southwood Varsity Knights committed an error, #23 singled down the left field line, #6 singled, and #18 walked, each scoring one run. Davis opened the game for Southwood Varsity Knights. The righty surrendered three hits and 12 runs (eight earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking six. #19 led things off on the mound for Northwestern. The starter gave up three hits and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking one. Davis, Ranck, and Holloway each collected one hit for Southwood Varsity Knights. Height led the team with one run batted in. #6 drove the middle of the lineup, leading Northwestern with five runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. #19 led Northwestern with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Northwestern turned one double play in the game. Next up for Southwood Varsity Knights is a game at South Adams on Thursday.
