Southwood Varsity Knights Walk-Off In Nail-Biter Against Bluffton 3-2

It came down to the wire on Monday, as Southwood grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 3-2, over Bluffton. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the seventh when Lambert singled, scoring one run. The pitching was strong on both sides. Southwood pitchers struck out one, while Bluffton sat down 10. Bluffton were the first to get on the board in the third when Ault doubled, scoring one run. Lovatto homered to center field, which helped Southwood tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth. A solo home run to left field by Ault gave Bluffton the lead, 2-1, in the top of the sixth. Sutphin singled, which helped Southwood tie the game at two in the bottom of the sixth. Sutphin earned the win for Southwood. The righty surrendered eight hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out one and walking one. Phillippe took the loss for Bluffton. The starter went six and one-third innings, surrendering three runs on six hits, striking out 10 and walking five. Lambert, Sutphin, and Lovatto each drove in one run for Southwood Varsity Knights. Ashba led Southwood with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing five walks for the game. Southwood turned three double plays in the game. Ault and Ault were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Bluffton. Lemler, Ault, and Phillippe each collected two hits for Bluffton. Bluffton were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Smith made the most plays with 10. Southwood Varsity Knights will travel to Eastbrook for their next game on Tuesday.
