In Walk-Off, Southwood Junior Varsity Knights Lose To Wabash 6-5

A walk-off left Southwood Junior Varsity Knights on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat to Wabash on Wednesday at Wabash. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the fifth when Flohr grounded out, scoring one run. Southwood Junior Varsity Knights lost despite out-hitting Wabash six to four. Pershing and Lovatto each collected two hits for Southwood Junior Varsity Knights. Southwood Junior Varsity Knights opened the scoring in the second after Pershing singled, scoring one run. Wabash captured the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fourth after Hicks was struck by a pitch, and Flohr walked, each scoring one run. Southwood Junior Varsity Knights captured the lead, 5-2, in the top of the fifth when Ramos singled, scoring one run, and Strickler doubled, scoring three runs. Wabash jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Renn grounded into a fielder's choice, Trosper singled to center field, Southwood Junior Varsity Knights committed an error, and Flohr grounded out, each scoring one run. Lynn earned the win for Wabash. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and five runs (four earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking four. Wilson took the loss for Southwood Junior Varsity Knights. The pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering six runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out seven and walking three. Strickler, the number seven hitter for Southwood Junior Varsity Knights, led the way with three runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-2 on the day. Wilson threw an immaculate inning in the second, striking out the side on nine pitches. Southwood Junior Varsity Knights stole four bases in the game. Hicks led Wabash with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. Trosper, Lynn, Baker, and Zickafoose each collected one hit for Wabash. Wabash turned two double plays in the game. Southwood Junior Varsity Knights will travel to Eastern for their next game on Saturday.
