Lakers Take Big Strides in Battle with Unity Christian The Spring Lake varsity volleyball team showed its growth and resilience on Tuesday night, competing strongly in a four-set match against Unity Christian. The Lakers put together one of their most consistent performances of the season, taking a set and pushing the Crusaders throughout before falling 20-25, 17-25, 25-16, 20-25. The highlight of the night came in the third set, when Spring Lake came out energized and in sync, executing at a high level to claim a decisive 25-16 win. Even in the sets that didn’t go their way, the Lakers stayed composed, cut down on unforced errors, and demonstrated how far they’ve come since the start of the season. Statistical leaders for Spring Lake included: Abbey Rogalski with 9 kills and a block. Lauren Meigs and Brooke St. George added 7 kills apiece. Ashlynn O’Donnell dished out 13 assists while Rileigh Fortuna tallied 10. Defensively, Zoe Winters led with 13 digs, followed by Sage Horton with 9 and O’Donnell with 7. From the service line, O’Donnell, Horton, and Selah Kobylak each recorded an ace. At the net, Rogalski, Meigs, and Peyton Hein each posted a block. Head coach noted that this was the first match of the season where the Lakers strung together four consistently strong sets. The team’s improved execution, smart decision-making, and reduced errors were all positive signs that momentum is building as the season moves forward. Spring Lake (2-7-2, 0-2 OK-Blue) will be back on their home court on Tuesday, September 16 for an exciting evening of double duels. The Lakers open against Fruitport, followed by Ravenna versus West Michigan Christian. Winners and losers will then square off in a second round of matches starting at 5:00 p.m.
