Laker Tennis Battles Hard at Saturday Quad The Spring Lake varsity boys tennis team took on a strong field Saturday, competing against Big Rapids, Sturgis, and Rockford in a challenging quad. While the Lakers came away with valuable experience and a handful of hard-fought victories, the day was also a testament to their resilience and competitiveness against quality opponents. Spring Lake opened the day with a close 5-3 loss to Big Rapids. The Lakers earned singles wins from Alex Dull at No. 2 and James Priddy at No. 3, while the No. 4 doubles team of Joshua Ridlington and Jonah VanHoeven pulled out a tight three-set victory to round out the scoring. The middle match saw the Lakers go toe-to-toe with Sturgis, again falling by a narrow 5-3 margin. The doubles lineup led the way this time, with three victories. At No. 1 doubles, Nate Pawlak and Matthew Truszkowski outlasted their opponents in a thrilling third-set tiebreak. The No. 3 team of Ridlington and VanHoeven added their second win of the day, and the No. 4 pairing of Tristan Thein and Caleb Cress contributed another straight-set victory. Spring Lake finished the day against perennial power Rockford. Though the Lakers dropped the match, the tough competition gave the team a chance to measure itself against one of the top programs in the area and provided valuable lessons as the season continues. “Even though the results weren’t all in our favor, our guys showed great fight today,” said head coach. “We had multiple matches come down to a third set or tiebreak, and our players are growing from those experiences. This type of competition will only make us stronger moving forward.” The Lakers will look to build on the positives from Saturday’s quad as they head into their next stretch of matches.
