Varsity vs ZEELAND EAST HIGH SCHOOL (48 - 36) Win Spring Lake Pulls Away Late to Sweep Zeeland East In their second meeting of the season with Zeeland East, the Spring Lake Lakers once again found themselves locked in a tight battle—until a late surge allowed them to take control and secure a 48–36 home victory. The Chix edged ahead 11–10 after the first quarter, setting the tone for another back‑and‑forth matchup similar to their last contest ending with a close five point victory for Spring Lake. Spring Lake tied the game at 17 heading into halftime and carried a narrow 29–26 lead into the fourth quarter. Zeeland East briefly reclaimed momentum in the final frame, taking a two‑point lead midway through the quarter. But the Lakers answered with the play of the night: a clutch three‑pointer from Lexi Baker that put Spring Lake ahead by one and sparked the momentum swing they needed. From there, the Lakers tightened their defensive pressure and executed offensively, stacking on points to close out the game with authority. Alex Botbyl delivered a standout performance, leading all scorers with 15 points. Kloe George followed with 14, while Baker joined them in double figures with 10 points. The Lakers’ team defense and crisp ball movement were key factors in pulling away late and closing out the win. Coach Cori Geoghan praised her team’s mental toughness and adaptability: “I am proud of the resiliency of this team. Being down a starter, we needed players to step up, and tonight every player stepped up and played an important role in our win tonight.” With the victory, the Lakers continue to build momentum as they prepare to travel to Hamilton on Friday for another conference showdown.
