The Pioneers scored on their first seven possessions and held host Oldham County out of the end zone. Simon Kenton outgained Oldham County, 398-152 with most of the Colonel yards coming on two drives in the second half. The Pioneers led 49-0 at halftime. “It was a good game,” said Roy Lucas, Simon Kenton head coach. “We got off to a real good start – very exciting. The kids had a lot of fun.” Simon Kenton fourth-year starting quarterback Chase Crone completed 8 of 10 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 29 more on two carries. Senior Chase Williams led the Pioneers with five catches for 93 yards. Daily LINK Signup no form “We have a pretty big offensive line I feel like,” said Aba Selm, Simon Kenton junior lineman. “We can really dominate this season. We have most of our starting players back from last year. I feel like we can really move the ball, especially pass plays. That’s what’s just really special about our offensive line.” Senior running back Jayden Lawson rushed for 52 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. The Pioneers saw 11 different players carry the ball in the victory. Simon Kenton had no turnovers in the win. “It feels great. We went fast and probably went faster as the game went along,” said Kaleb Russell, Simon Kenton offensive lineman. “We don’t get tired. We hope the (opposing) defense does.” The Pioneers made a number of plays on defense. Senior defensive back Brayden Ross and sophomore linebacker Josh Rector had tackles for a loss. Simon Kenton travels to Highlands on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
