The Scottsburg Warriors opened the IHSAA Class 3A Sectional 31 in dominant fashion Friday night, defeating Edgewood 31–7 at Warrior Field. Behind a powerful rushing attack, explosive passing plays, and a stingy defensive performance, Scottsburg advanced to the sectional semifinals in front of an energized home crowd. The scoring got started early as senior quarterback Nathan Byrd connected with senior Garrett Boling for the first touchdown of the game, setting the tone for the Warriors. Byrd finished the night completing 7 of 12 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns, including a 71-yard strike to junior Luke Hamilton later in the game that ignited the crowd. In the ground game, senior running back Landon Shuck was a force, carrying the ball 29 times for 176 yards and a touchdown. His physical style and ability to keep the chains moving allowed Scottsburg to control the clock and dictate the pace of the game. Defensively, the Warriors set the tone early and never let up. Garrett Boling anchored the defense with 14 tackles, Landon Shuck added 8, and senior Joshua Thomas recorded a tackle for loss. Scottsburg held Edgewood to just one touchdown while forcing multiple stops in key moments to secure the win. Matthew Wickey highlighted the defensive effort with an 85 yard pick six! In total, the Warriors racked up 340 yards of offense—177 rushing and 163 passing—while limiting their own mistakes with only four penalties for 29 yards in a disciplined and complete team performance. “This was a total team effort,” head coach Kyle Mullins said. “Our guys were focused, physical, and executed on both sides of the ball. It’s the kind of football we’ve been working toward all season.” With the win, Scottsburg (8-2) advances to the Sectional 31 Semifinals, where they will host North Harrison on Friday, October 31 at 7:00 PM at Warrior Field.
