The Scottsburg High School and Middle School cross country teams turned in strong performances at the Duke Meyer Classic Invitational on Saturday, racing against a deep field of schools from across southern Indiana and Kentucky. High School Warriors & Warriorettes For the high school boys, Kameron Reed led Scottsburg with a 22nd-place finish, clocking 18:38.23 in the 5K. He was followed closely by Gavin Curley, who crossed the line in 19:45.76. The Warriorettes also had a tight pack of finishers with Brooklyn Moon (25:35.66), Addison Elliott (26:46.35), Addison Eldridge (26:48.35), and Briley Bary (27:10.16) competing well against tough regional competition. On the girls’ side, Scottsburg packed in a trio of runners as Moon, Elliott, and Eldridge finished within just over a minute of one another. Their effort gave the Warriorette squad solid depth in a race featuring some of the state’s top programs. Middle School Warriors & Warriorettes The Scottsburg Middle School runners also made their mark in the 3K races. For the boys, Caleb Cox ran a terrific race, placing 3rd overall in 11:44.69. Teammate Jase DePriest was right behind in 5th at 11:46.84, giving the Warriors two finishers in the top five. Wyatt English (12:48.74) also cracked the top 20, while Caleb Mays (16:48.00) rounded out the team’s efforts. In the girls’ race, Mattie Pearcy paced Scottsburg with an outstanding run, finishing runner-up in 11:55.00 against a field of more than 80 athletes. She was backed by Whitley Horn (15:35.77), Eloise Whitmore (16:10.91), Isabelle Bales (16:28.44), Olivia Canada (16:32.85), and Ryliegh Shell (17:00.40).
