Garrett McClellan Leads Scottsburg Varsity Warriors Past Salem By GameChanger Media Garrett McClellan struck out 11 batters as the hurler led Scottsburg Varsity Warriors past Salem 3-1 on Thursday. McClellan surrendered two hits and one run over seven innings while walking one. Both teams were strong on the bump. Scottsburg Varsity Warriors pitchers struck out 11, while Salem sat down 10. A home run to right field by Brandt Kendall put Scottsburg Varsity Warriors on the board in the bottom of the first. A single by McClellan extended the Scottsburg Varsity Warriors lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning. Griffen Richards took the loss for Salem. The starting pitcher went three and one-third innings, allowing three runs on two hits, striking out six and walking four. McClellan and Kendall were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Scottsburg Varsity Warriors while hitting back-to-back. Kendall went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Braden Cox stole two bases. Scottsburg Varsity Warriors ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game. Rene Alverez and Kaiden Romero-Hembree each collected one hit for Salem. Romero-Hembree led Salem with one run batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Scottsburg Varsity Warriors welcome Austin on Monday for their next game.
