By GameChanger Media Scottsburg Varsity Warriors fell to Charlestown Varsity Pirates 8-3 on Wednesday at Charlestown High School in the IHSAA Sectional. Scottsburg Varsity Warriors got on the board in the top of the first inning after Charlestown Varsity Pirates committed an error, Charlestown Varsity Pirates committed an error, and Ian Gricius singled to right field, each scoring one run. Charlestown Varsity Pirates tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a single by Christian Grayson, and an error. Charlestown Varsity Pirates flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 8-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Cole Singleton that drove in two. Connor Buck earned the win for Charlestown Varsity Pirates. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking none. Jaxon Owens took the loss for Scottsburg Varsity Warriors. The righty went two-thirds of an inning, giving up five runs (zero earned) on two hits, striking out none and walking three. Emmitt Zeigenbein began the game for Scottsburg Varsity Warriors. The southpaw allowed six hits and three runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking none. Owens, Gricius, and Caiden Boswell each collected one hit for Scottsburg Varsity Warriors. Cale Barger and Gricius each drove in one run for Scottsburg Varsity Warriors. Braden Cox stole two bases. Grayson drove the middle of the lineup, leading Charlestown Varsity Pirates with three runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-3 on the day.
