There was no way around it. The Saginaw United Baseball Coaching Staff knew from experience there are no short cuts to competing with the best programs on the Phoenix' yearly schedule. "The best teams in Saginaw Valley League baseball are there because talented people worked hard at it year-round for as many years as it takes," United Head Coach Nate Volk said. Integral to that goal is United Baseball's Leadership Program. Starting August 31, the first day of the 2026-27 school year, players began competing for two-week championships by accumulating points in off-season workout attendance and performance, academic performance, and positive activities done for others at home, in school, and in the community. Senior Sebastian Ruiz and Freshmen Aden Kolbe and Rollin Carter, III tied for the first point's championship. The players each won lunch at Rally's. And now look to add more points for the second two-weeks. "Competing to excel at everything we do is a driving principle of Saginaw United Baseball," Volk said. "Being good at all things and a willingness to work very hard for improvement is a habit that applies positively to anything in life. I am super excited we had new faces show up and set the pace in the Leadership Program. It is something that will run year-round with many avenues to build up points. The players will be having a lot of fun as they compete. The goal is always to become better people and better baseball players."
