It's a new (and made up) saying. But fits the memorable first of Tuesday afternoon, September 1, 2026: Summer heat and baseball go together like Saginaw United playing baseball on its beautiful new field. So it was that the high heat and many positives of being home were both stories as Saginaw United Coaches welcomed players to Fall Baseball Workout 1. "It was awesome being able to walk out of the fieldhouse and just get at it," United Head Coach Nate Volk said. "We're extremely grateful as a program to be back home here on campus. The field has great views of downtown. It drains really well. And the ball is going to really carry on warm days. The annual goal is exciting baseball for the players and local fans. This is going to be great for our guys and also the young players in Saginaw looking forward to their high school careers here." On hand as the field's first players were Freshmen Aden Kolbe and Rollin Carter. After throwing, Assistant Head Coach/Junior Varsity Head Coach Roy Sims got to work on the players' footwork and mastering attack angle on ground balls. The hour-long session concluded with center balance hitting movements. "Roy is a great teacher of those details that lead to plays being made," Volk said. "The format of this time of year where we work for extended time with a player or two is a fun format for coaches who love teaching and it moves the players forward rapidly. Both guys walked out of here better today. And it seemed like they had a great time." United Baseball holds Fall open workouts on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday through the end October. Morning strength, agility, and speed work is offered before school in the weight room and on the track. The afternoon is spent on the new field working with the players with a focus on pitching faster and hitting for power. Morning and afternoon sessions each run for about one hour. All students not playing a Fall sport who completed Final Forms and a sports' physical are welcome to attend. "Today was a blast," Volk said. "Fall is perfect for baseball. It was mid-summer hot, but the best two weather months of the year are coming right now. Our field is going to be tremendous for our players and baseball in the City. The conveniences and how that helped our work efficiency was already apparent. Then we had football working right there next to us. It was a great environment. Can't wait for tomorrow."
