LONG-AWAITED BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL FIELDS TAKE FINAL SHAPE. BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME! The transformation is finally becoming visible. Although the 2026 spring season has come to an end and Saginaw United student-athletes will have to wait a little longer to compete on them, a major milestone was reached this week as sod was installed on the district's new baseball and softball fields. For years, coaches, athletes, families, and community members have anticipated the completion of these facilities. While construction has progressed steadily, the arrival of the sod marks the first time the fields truly resemble the baseball and softball complexes that will soon serve future generations of student-athletes. Truckloads of freshly cut sod arrived on site and crews immediately began the installation process, carefully laying the grass across both fields. What was once a construction site and expansive dirt surface has now been transformed into vibrant green playing fields. From above, the change is striking. The baseball field now clearly reflects the familiar shape and appearance of a completed diamond, while the softball field has undergone a similar transformation. The newly installed turf brings both facilities to life and offers a glimpse of what athletes and spectators can expect in the seasons ahead. While the fields look nearly game-ready, patience will still be required. With school now out for the summer, the newly installed sod will need time to establish a strong root system before regular use can begin. District officials anticipate several months of growth and maintenance before the fields can safely host practices and competitions. Although this year's teams were unable to take the field, the progress represents an exciting investment in the future of Saginaw United athletics. Current athletes, alumni, and future Phoenix's can now see the vision becoming a reality. The completion of the sod installation serves as a reminder that the finish line is near. While no games will be played on the new fields this season, anticipation is already building for the day when the first pitch is thrown and the first game is played on facilities that will benefit Saginaw United athletes for years to come. The wait is not quite over—but the fields have never looked closer to being ready.
