Saginaw United wrapped up the 2026 baseball season Thursday, falling to nearby rival Carrollton in both games of a doubleheader. Carrollton won the opener 17-1 in three innings before taking the nightcap 16-1 in three innings. Despite the scores, United saw encouraging performances from several younger players in the final outing of the season. Sophomore pitcher Jamarion Vollmer delivered one of his strongest appearances of the year on the mound. “Vollmer was throwing with a lot of noticeable late life when it reached the strike zone,” United Head Coach Nate Volk said. “The future is very bright for him.” Volk also pointed to the work of catcher Lavarion Luera, whose effort behind the plate helped stabilize the defense throughout the evening. “He really stepped up back there,” Volk said. “He played with great energy, and his blocked percentage was his best of the season.” The improved play defensively also allowed United to move Dakari Sims into the infield, where he contributed several solid plays alongside teammates Kari Delgado and Jayce Delgado. “The strong play in the 60 feet involving a pairing besides Iggy Delgado and Sims or Jayce Delgado and Sims was the positive story of these two games for us,” Volk added. Saginaw United finishes the 2026 season with a 1-23 record, but much of the roster is expected to return over the next two seasons, giving the program a foundation to continue building upon. “Most of the team is eligible to play more high school baseball next season and in 2028,” Volk said. “We need the entire focus to rest on using time exceedingly well and being urgent in our preparations. I know we now have a core group of guys who will take on that challenge and dedicate themselves to playing for each other and putting in the work to improve.” With a young roster gaining experience and several players showing growth late in the season, United now turns its attention toward the offseason and preparing for next spring.
