Saginaw Heritage, representing the Saginaw Valley League North, used explosive starts in both games to sweep Saginaw United of the SVL South in a postseason crossover doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Olsen Park in Saginaw Township. Heritage scored 10 runs in the opening inning of Game 1 and added nine first-inning runs in Game 2 on the way to victories of 18-0 and 16-1, with both games ending after three innings. Despite the difficult afternoon, Saginaw United (1-19) continued to battle throughout the doubleheader. Iggy Delgado reached base in both games and drove in Enrique Martinez II for United’s lone run of the day. United returns to action today with a 4 p.m. road game at Bridgeport before opening District tournament play Saturday against Bay City Central. There were also a pair of notable moments for the program in Game 2. Freshman Zai’Juan Staffney made his varsity debut in right field, while Dean Simpson III made his first pitching appearance of the 2026 season. “Glad to have a game tomorrow to more quickly move past today,” United Head Coach Nate Volk said. “Every team has a game or two during the high school season where they feel like it was a step back, and Game 1 was definitely one of those games for us. Our energy was flat for sure. But we’ll head over to Bridgeport and throw everything we can at that one. The guys will bounce back and play more to the level they expect of themselves.”
