SAGINAW — Saginaw United Girls Tennis honored its senior class on April 30th in a home matchup against Flint Carman-Ainsworth, marking a memorable evening filled with resilience, growth, and standout performances despite a 5-3 team loss. The program recognized five seniors for their dedication and contributions: Semaj Vining, Ahnyala Eichelberger, Naveen Garcia, Kimora Kinnard, and Sha'mya Amos. Each has played a key role in shaping the team’s culture and competitiveness, and Senior Night provided a fitting opportunity to celebrate their commitment. Highlighting the evening was an unforgettable performance from Vining and Eichelberger at No. 1 doubles. The senior duo battled through a tightly contested match that ultimately came down to a dramatic third-set tiebreaker. Facing two match points against them, Vining and Eichelberger refused to back down, showing poise under pressure and determination to extend the match. They rallied to win the tiebreaker 11-9, earning one of the most exciting victories of the season and delivering a defining Senior Night moment. Saginaw United also saw dominant performances in singles play. Shalini Gupta secured a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, displaying complete control from start to finish. At No. 2 singles, Xen Medina-Austin added another victory for United with a strong 6-0, 6-3 performance, continuing to demonstrate growth and confidence on the court. Others battling on behalf of United included Eniola Yisa, Julia Bomba, Claire Simons, Sophia Seals, Precious Guidry-Holmes, Naveen Garcia, Aniyah Cook, Kimora Kinnard, and Arianna Coleman, all of whom contributed to the team’s competitive effort throughout the lineup. Although the final team score favored Flint Carman-Ainsworth, the match reflected significant improvement from Saginaw United across all flights. Players showed increased consistency, stronger communication in doubles, and a competitive mindset that kept several matches close.
