Lapeer Takes Two from Saginaw United in SVL South Play Host Lapeer capitalized on timely hitting and clean defense to sweep a doubleheader from Saginaw United in SVL South baseball action Monday afternoon, taking Game 1 (23-0) and Game 2 (18-1). While the scores were lopsided, the day marked important developmental milestones for United’s young roster. Freshman Jamarion Vollmer made his varsity debut on the mound in Game 1, and sophomore Enrique Martinez II saw his first pitching action of the season in Game 2—both gaining valuable experience against a strong Lapeer lineup. “Both Jamarion and Enrique showed promise,” said Head Coach Nate Volk. “We didn’t always support them defensively the way we needed to, and that extended innings. But they competed, and that’s something we can build on. They’ll be back out there for us.” United found a spark in Game 2 as freshmen Seth Pilon-Patterson and Lavarion Luera reached base. Luera created momentum on the basepaths with two stolen bases and went on to score United’s lone run of the afternoon. Beyond the box score, Volk pointed to the team’s commitment and resilience as a defining takeaway. “I’m proud of the guys who made the trip,” Volk said. “We had players step up on short notice to represent their school and support their teammates. That speaks volumes about their character. Competing for each other—especially when it’s tough—is exactly what this program is about.” Facing one of the area’s most competitive leagues, United continues to embrace the challenge of SVL play with a long-term mindset. “We’re proud to compete in this league,” Volk added. “There are no easy days in the SVL. Right now, that means learning through some tough moments—but those moments are shaping who we’re becoming.”
