Saginaw United 30 The spring air was electric Wednesday evening as Saginaw United's track and field program competed in the SVL Invitational, delivering a packed card of personal bests, relay victories, and standout individual performances across both the men's and women's divisions. Flint Powers Catholic claimed the men's team title with 87 points, Davison captured the women's crown at 72, and Saginaw United settled in at third on both sides. But team scores only tell part of the story. Men's Varsity Wilson goes double-duty, Daniels shines as freshman Junior Damian Wilson turned in one of the day's most complete performances. He blazed to a fifth-place finish in the 100 meters with a personal-best 11.86 seconds — drawing murmurs from the infield — then headed straight to the high jump pit and cleared 6 feet 2 inches for first place and another personal best. Two events, two career-best marks. That is a statement afternoon. Key result: Damian Wilson — 100m 5th (11.86 PB) & High Jump 1st (6'2" PB). The most complete performance of the meet. The 200 meters was a showcase of team depth. Junior Gregory Cole Jr. stormed to seventh in a personal-best 25.19 seconds, Wilson was on his heels in eighth at 25.21 (also a PB), and Jordan Allen (25.40 PB), Silas Hampton (25.47), Jayden Burns (25.70 PB), Brailun Abby (25.81), and Daiyon Clark (25.97) all crossed within striking distance. Eight runners, five personal bests. The 400 meters featured a jaw-dropping freshman debut. Andre Daniels charged to sixth in a personal-best 56.13 seconds — an elite mark for any first-year athlete. Junior James Casey was right alongside him, placing eighth in a season-best 56.85. The relay unit of Daniels, Cole Jr., Kyunt Spearmint, and Nathan Coleman combined to earn third in the 4x100 at 47.98, and the 4x200 A squad added another third at 1:36.42. The night's loudest men's roar came in the 4x800. Jalill Sanders, Kelldan Booker, Channing Washington, and Jeremy Casey ran wire-to-wire to capture first place at 10:37.00 — a flat-out gold for Saginaw United. Senior Ssante Ramsey added another win in the shot put, launching a personal-best 46 feet 1 inch for the top throw of the event. Freshman Alonzo Andrews turned heads in the 110-meter hurdles, placing third in a personal-best 22.90, looking smooth and powerful over every barrier. Women's Varsity Cole, Akins pace sprints; relays bring the gold home Junior Sariyah Akins set a sharp tone early, placing second in the 100 meters at 13.61, with junior Shalin Baldwin right behind her in fourth at 13.71. The duo put Saginaw United in contention from the opening gun. Junior Nevaeh Cole followed with one of the women's highlights of the day, finishing second in the 200 meters in a season-best 29.03 seconds — a controlled, powerful run that had coaches nodding in approval. The defining moment of the women's meet came when the 4x100 B relay team — Kyani Edwards, Nevaeh Cole, Destinyy C., and Paris Peoples — crossed the line first at 53.91 seconds. The crowd erupted. The 4x800 squad of Maliyah Haywood, NyAsia Gomez, Dreana Kemp, and Jailey Jackson backed that up with another first-place finish at 13:23.79 — a dominant, front-to-back effort. Sophomore Jailey Jackson was a two-sport force in the throws, taking second in the shot put with a personal-best 32 feet 9 inches and fifth in the discus at 73 feet 9 inches. Sophomore My'Kael Williams claimed the high jump title at 4 feet 10 inches, and freshman Aliva Baldwin gave a glimpse of the future with a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at 20.01. Freshman Demya Baker was right behind her in fourth at 20.03 — a razor-thin margin separating two athletes with plenty of track career ahead of them. The final team standings may not have favored Saginaw United, but what emerged from Tuesday's meet was a roster brimming with personal bests, relay gold, and athletes who are peaking at exactly the right time.
