Dow High School, Saginaw United's boys track and field team captured first place with 59.25 points, edging out Bay City Central (50.75) and host Midland Dow (48). The girls squad put up a strong fight but finished second with 48 points, behind Bay City Central's winning total of 55 and ahead of Midland Dow's 34. The boys performance was anchored by a impressive collection of personal bests and multi-event standouts. Freshman Kaiden Coleman was arguably the meet's biggest story, winning the 200 meters in a personal-best 23.46 seconds before adding a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters (11.51, PB). Classmate Tieriol Moore complemented him beautifully, taking third in the 100 (11.47, PB) and third in the 200 (23.55, PB). The two freshmen also anchored the 4x100 relay team — joined by senior Henri Daniels and freshman Dontea Price — which finished third in 46.42. Junior James Casey turned in one of the day's most dominant individual performances, winning the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:09.00, while the 4x400 relay squad featuring Casey, juniors Brendon Sims and Jalill Sanders, and senior Jamarion Goodman took first place in 3:38.87. Sims also earned a runner-up finish in the 400 meters with a personal-best 54.32. Senior Damian Wilson delivered in the field events, claiming first in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 20 feet even, while junior Blake Jones topped the high jump competition at 6 feet. In the hurdles, sophomore Silas Hampton placed second in the 110m hurdles (18.43, PB) and third in the 300m hurdles (46.21, PB). On the girls side, several athletes shone brightly even as the team fell one spot short of the team title. Junior La'Kayla McCall was a double standout in the hurdles, finishing third in the 100m hurdles (20.70, PB) and second in the 300m hurdles with a personal-best 1:01.04. Freshman Shaniya Williams was equally impressive, winning the 400 meters outright in a personal-best 1:06.59 and adding a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters (29.94, PB). Freshman Malaiah Moore grabbed second in the 200 meters with a personal-best 29.78, while the women's 4x100 relay team of sophomores My'Kael Williams, Ne'cori Brown, Terriah Washington, and freshman Moore claimed first place in 54.94. My'Kael Williams also topped the high jump at 4 feet 10 inches, and Ne'cori Brown won the long jump at 14 feet 5.5 inches. Juniors Shalin Baldwin and Sariyah Akins went 2-3 in the 100 meters, posting times of 13.60 (SB) and 13.62 (PB) respectively, giving Saginaw United a strong showing in the sprints. With numerous personal bests logged across both rosters, the Saginaw United program appears to be trending in the right direction as the season moves forward.
