In a thrilling first for Saginaw United High School, the Phoenix Cheer Team hosted their inaugural Competitive Cheer Contest, welcoming three rival squads to their gymnasium: the Saginaw Arts and Sciences Dragons, the Carrollton Cavaliers, and the Heritage Hawks. An enthusiastic and sizeable crowd packed the stands to cheer on all four teams in what proved to be an exciting afternoon of athletic competition. The contest was structured across three demanding rounds, each designed to test a different set of cheerleading skills. Round One focused on motions and crowd leading, challenging teams to demonstrate sharp technique and high energy performance. Round Two raised the stakes with floor tumbling — including back walkovers, front walkovers, handsprings, and tucks — along with precise kicks and synchronized timing. Round Three, the most demanding of all, showcased high-level stunting and advanced tumbling, where teams pushed their limits in front of the eager crowd. When the final scores were tallied, the Carrollton Cavaliers took home First Place honors, followed by the Saginaw Arts and Sciences Dragons in Second and the Heritage Hawks in Third. The host Phoenix squad earned Fourth Place — a commendable showing for a team competing on their home floor for the very first time in this format. Despite finishing fourth, the Phoenix team received a warm and enthusiastic reception from the home crowd throughout the event. Hosting a competitive cheer contest for the first time is a milestone moment for the Saginaw United athletics program, and by all accounts, the team represented their school with pride and heart. Congratulations to all four squads on a wonderful competition, and a special thank you to everyone who came out to support these talented student-athletes! Go Phoenix!
