Saginaw United Phoenix Competition Cheer Makes Impressive Debut The Saginaw United Phoenix Competition Cheer team made history this weekend, competing for the first time since the program's inception. Under the leadership of Head Coach Kayla McMillan and Assistant Coach Zahria Williams, the squad showed they're ready to make their mark on the competition circuit. The Phoenix kicked off their competitive season with back-to-back events, traveling to Freeland on Friday and Vassar on Saturday. In their very first competition at Freeland, the team delivered an impressive performance that earned them a third-place finish—a remarkable achievement for a brand-new program finding its footing in the competitive cheer world. Saturday's competition in Vassar brought different results, but the team's energy and enthusiasm didn't go unnoticed. While they didn't place in the rankings, the Phoenix were honored with the "Spirit Award," a testament to their positive attitude and the electric energy they brought to the mat. The pioneering squad that represented Saginaw United this weekend includes Da'Marea Harper, Le'Airia Griffin, Janell Jones, Daisha Hibbler, KeyOndria Davis-Ramsey, Taliyah Boose, Namyia Young, Madison Thornton, Kennedi Lyle, Shaniya Collins, Skyla Jones, and Ailyse Carter. These student-athletes have set the foundation for what promises to be an exciting inaugural season. As the Phoenix continue their competitive journey, this opening weekend has shown that Saginaw United's newest team is one to watch.
