HUSKY NATION, I hope this message finds you well. As we continue to prioritize both academic success and the development of strong student leaders, we would like to share new information regarding our Athletic Attendance Policy for all student-athletes. At Ritenour High School, participation in athletics is a privilege, not a right. Our primary focus is ensuring that our students succeed in the classroom, remain on track for graduation, and serve as positive role models within our school community. These structures are to stay within MSHSAA attendance guidelines and designed to promote accountability, consistency, and student success—it is not intended to be punitive. Daily Attendance Monitoring The Athletic Office will run a daily attendance report for all student-athletes. Coaches will receive this report each day by ~2:30 PM. The report includes the following attendance codes: A – Absent T – Tardy to Class U – Unexcused Absence C – Cutting/Skipping Class O – Out of School Suspension X – Late to School (Unexcused) Z – Early Dismissal (Unexcused) Same-Day Participation Expectation If a student-athlete is marked not present for any class period during the school day, they will not be permitted to practice or compete that day. This expectation applies regardless of schedule type (A/B days or block scheduling). Example: If a student arrives late and misses an entire class period, they are not eligible to participate that day. Weekly Accountability Each Monday, a weekly attendance summary will be reviewed. Any student-athlete with four (4) or more attendance marks (tardies, late arrivals, etc.) during the week may face disciplinary action, including the possibility of missing part or all of the next competition. Students will be made aware during the week if they are approaching this threshold. Excused Absences Absences due to doctor appointments or other valid reasons must be communicated and documented with a note that same day or before the absence, to the Attendance Office, Coaching Staff, & Athletic Office to be excused. Properly excused absences will be taken into consideration. Our Commitment We are committed to working with coaches, students, and families to support success both academically and athletically. Each team may have additional expectations aligned with this policy, and coaches will communicate those as needed. Our Goal Our goal is simple: Students first Graduation for all Athletes who lead by example in our building We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations and helping our student athletes develop habits that will serve them well beyond high school. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your continued support of Ritenour Athletics. Sincerely, Activities/Athletics Department Ritenour High School
